The Wollongong Combined Churches Education Board exists as the representative organisation to provide special religious education in our local high schools for all students who wish to participate in (SRE) under the oversight of the approved SRE provider Churches of the Wollongong area.
The board comprises of representatives from these Churches to manage the employment of the SRE teachers and communicate with the Churches what is happening in the schools. It also seeks to obtain prayer and financial support for the continued employment of the SRE teachers.
The aim for the SRE teachers is to teach the Bible via approved curriculum to students in classes organized and timetabled within the schools and to be involved in serving the schools needs where opportunities arise.
1 Thessalonians 2:8 captures the spirit of which the teachers teach and go about their work in the schools. “Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” They seek to not just teach the students and share the gospel with them, but to share their lives as well and help them with navigating life and all it’s complexities and questions.
